VALE – Peter MacDermott

It is with sadness that the Friends of Warringah Rugby Foundation advises the recent passing of long-time FOWRF member, Peter MacDermott.

Peter loved nothing better than sitting in the Spencers Creek Box with his mates watching the Mighty Rats win at Rat Park. Peter was a warm, friendly and generous man and will be missed by all at Rat Park.

Peter recently told the FOWRF…” I went to school in Brisbane and at school I played Rugby League and Rugby Union. During the 1960s I was working in Hobart and played Rugby Union for a number of seasons with the Hobart  Harlequins. I was a member of Cromer Golf Club and for many years I held a semi-official position there. During that time I became good friends with Ted Lyndon, John Heffernan, Col Crawford and most of the members of the Spencers Creek Box at Rat Park. When my golfing days were over, it was a natural move for me to ask Ted if he could fit me into his box. He kindly agreed and the rest is history.”

“My involvement with the Rats gives me great entertainment during the winter and, more importantly, the opportunity to catch up with old friends. My best memory of the Rats is the great home games I attend and the wonderful atmosphere at Rat Park. I have no favourite player past or present. I love the Rats as a team, their enthusiasm and their reluctance to lose a game on home soil.”
